I’m already behind on my travel adventure recap (no surprise there) because on this day last year I was leaving Florence to head to Venice! But regardless of that, I could never ever skip over a recap of my all time favorite city in Europe: Firenze.
Erica (my travel buddy) and I spent almost a week camping in Florence and it captured my heart. I’ve never visited such a beautiful city filled to the brim with art, architecture, tasty food, and breathtaking views.
The book, Inferno by Dan Brown came out about a week before I left for my trip (I read it in two days flat, it’s my new fave Dan Brown book) and it takes place in both Florence and Venice. I had so much fun sleuthing around the city and exploring all of the art and buildings discussed in the book. The AMAZING duomo cathedral became my obsession and I took way too many pictures of it from our campsite (which was on a hill across the river from old town, so we could see the skyline from breakfast and dinner).
We camped at the PLUS Camping Michelangelo, and the view… breathtaking. See below.
The “tents” we stayed in were little houses with bunk beds inside!
We had so much fun living the ‘backpacking life’! We would split cantaloupes from the local market (eating them with plastic cappuccino spoons) and laid our laundry out to dry on the bushes and olive trees around our tent.
Ok, so enough on the tent life, let’s explore Florence!!! Old town florence (aka great art/buildings, 3 H&Ms, a bunch of pizza, the Duomo, and THE DAVID) was a quick downhill walk, about a mile away (across the river) from our campsite.
Meet my love, the duomo cathedral:
Meet, my second love: My boyfriend, David… oh wait. Michelangelo’s David. They’re really easy to mix up.
Meet, my third love: Food. Aka pizza and the best Chinese food I found in Europe.
Now here are some more random Florence pics because I haven’t overwhelmed y’all enough ;)
Whenever I think of Italy, I think of my amazing time in Florence. I can’t wait until I can go back!!
Up next: a recap of Venice, Italy!
