As someone who hoards office supplies and pretty paper goodies, I have always loved designing paper goods! Before I started Heart & Arrow, I sold hand painted canvases and (home-printed) stationery designs on Etsy. Here’s photographic evidence, circa 2012:
After getting more confident in my graphic design abilities, I moved into web design and left the pretty papers in the past. I purchased notecards, notebooks, and planners from other designers because I didn’t have the means to professionally print just one or two of these things, but it always bugged me. As much as I love their designs (and I know I can’t do everything) I still miss creating a physical product and mailing it off to brighten someone’s day.
About a month ago I created digital day planners which got people interested in my paper product style. That was all I needed to be hype about selling tangible products again! When the short-lived excitement over the printable day planners died down, I decided to make my own notepad version complete with cardboard backing and professional printing. I made it, had it printed, and realized that the image I uploaded was too low of a quality so it was pixely (rookie mistake, I know). I contacted my printing company and they helped me create the perfect, print-ready, design and let me reprint it for free – how nice of them!
I couldn’t send back the pixelated one so I decided to use it anyways and I fell in love with the functionality! As an entrepreneur and blogger, I have a lot of freedom in how each day is scheduled and this nifty deskpad keeps me accountable (without having to keep around all of the prior days’ pages like in a traditional planner). By planning out my day in blocks, it made things SO much easier to stay focused and on task. After all, everyone likes knowing when they have a break or a deadline, right?
I shared my little prototype on instagram and it BLEW UP. Everyone got so excited about this concept that it made me excited! Maybe this could be my first step into professional paper goods?
I began designing something a little more fun, created a couple different options, asked my blog friends for their opinions, and then turned to Twitter. The response was overwhelming and I realized that I should actually do this thing! Not just sell that one plain design I started with, but make it more personal. I want to give people access to beautiful, functional, customized office goods.
Naturally, at this realization I started freaking out with excitement (and sweating and texting things in all caps). Five minutes later, I was designing, playing around in Illustrator, and ‘Xoxo, Heart & Arrow’ (#xoxoheartarrow) was born. Heart & Arrow is primarily focused on combining beautiful and effective design, so why stop at designing digital spaces?
I’m giddy with excitement about this next chapter for Heart & Arrow, and I hope that you will join me in making our office spaces beautiful!
Ready to grab your own deskpad day planner?! You have a few great options!
I didn’t want to limit everyone to just one design (that may not match your instagram-perfect styled desk), so I created 13!
This one has a different header where you can have your name, blog name, or business name swapped in. It comes with the same four solid border options as well!
It takes about two weeks for these notepads to be processed, printed, proofed, and shipped to me. With that in mind, I decided to open up one week to do a pre-order! If you order From August 7th to August 14th, I’ll order your notepad with my inventory stock and you’ll get your beautiful package in the mail the week that these bad boys are stocked officially (about 2-3 weeks from August 15th). Again, these notepads are on PRE-ORDER! All orders placed between August 7th, 2014 and August 14th, 2014 will be shipped about 2-3 weeks from August 15th.
To sweeten the deal even more, use the code “FREESHIP” to get free shipping on your order!
Share your xoxo deskpad excitement and photos with the hashtag #XOXOheartarrow! I plan on featuring a stream of Instagram photos (when the orders come in!) as well as tweets on my website!
Thank you all so much for helping me make this happen, I could not do it without you!!!
