It’s crazy to think that three weeks ago I was completely unsuspecting of the fact that David had bought an engagement ring and was plotting to pop the question. Good gracious three weeks has gone by fast! I’ve been trying to keep the “OMG I’M GETTING MARRIED!!!!” craziness to a minimum on social media because I realize that not everyone is as ecstatic as I am… buuuuuut this blog is completely my territory so here I’m free to unleash the excitement!
Let’s start with a little backstory, shall we?
Summer 2005 – girl meets boy at Lawndale Swim and Tennis Club during summer swim team. Boy was signed up for the team against his will so he paid little attention to girl… or anyone.
2006 to 2010 – they continue to pass each other, but girl becomes close friends with boy’s sisters.
2010 – girl and boy coach the swim team and lifeguard together. They notice each other. They like each other. Girl goes off to UNCW.
2011 – Boy gets the pool management job that girl dreamed of (she’s pissed).
June 13th, 2011 – Despite the job-stealing, they start dating.
2011 to 2014 – lots of long distance lovin.
2014 – boy and girl graduate from college. Girl starts dreaming of what’s next… aka a wedding. Boy isn’t ready so girl starts a secret Pinterest board and keeps her crazy on the down low.
2015 – girl thinks she may be losing her mind with all the waiting. Tells boy this. He tells her to be patient.
Three weeks ago…
It was just a completely casual afternoon. After getting off work, I went over to David’s apartment and we made my favorite fresh margaritas, watched Game of Thrones (we’re always behind on episodes), and went out for sushi.
Little did I know, David had the most perfect diamond ring hidden in his cargo shorts the whole. freaking. time.
After dinner we went to the park to play some lacrosse and I brought my camera to practice my skills in different lighting.
When we got there the sun was setting so I suggested we head to our favorite bridge (about half a mile down the trail) so I could take photos there before it got dark. As we walked, I snapped gazillions of photos while David suggested a few, and photo bombed others. When we got to the bridge the lighting was PERFECT and David suggested I take a photo looking down the chain links (thus making me looking away from him).
While I was crouched down taking the above photo, I felt David suddenly really close to me. I looked over and there he was, on one knee, with the most beautiful ring in his hand and perfect (nervous) grin on his face. I think my heart about jumped out of my chest and I was COMPLETELY surprised. My first response was to say, “is this real?!” to which he responded, “I sure hope so!”
Of course the shock lasted all of three seconds and was immediately followed by a “YES!!!!!!!!!!” and a big kiss and plenty of selfies with the ring and my fiancé (which he found extremely amusing).
After David’s big surprise, it was my turn to join in on the sneakiness. We went to my house and surprised my parents (Dad already knew of course), then went to his house to surprise his parents and sisters. There was a lot of high pitched squealing and so many happy tears.
A couple days later I went to San Francisco with my family, but I wasted no time getting the wedding planning started! I work with so many talented business owners every day and I knew exactly who I wanted to contact first. In just these three weeks, I’ve already booked my venue, photographer, caterer, and day-of coordinator. And a dress appointment for this summer!
David has been really helpful (and fun!) with the planning, and I love having his ideas and input because they aren’t influenced by the almighty Pinterest. He’s completely taken on planing our honeymoon and has decided that it’ll be a surprise for me, which I am SO EXCITED about! I won’t find out where we’re going until we arrive at the airport… though I do know I’ll need my passport and a bikini.
So long story short, I’ve been on cloud nine for the last few weeks, planning has been a breeze, and I’m beyond excited that I get to marry David next year!!!
p.s. Any not-cheesy wedding hashtag ideas?!
