Last week we had our 19 week anatomy ultrasound (on my birthday!) and it was an experience I’ll never, ever forget.
The appointment lasted an hour and a half and we got a detailed look at just how much our little bean has grown since our 9 week ultrasound. Between looking at the various vital things on our checklist (heart, brain, kidneys, etc) we would spend a couple minutes just watching baby wiggle around. David and I were totally in awe watching our little one stretching and pushing, sucking their thumb, and the cutest yawn I have ever seen in my life. I’m distinctly feeling baby movements now, so seeing this perfect, tiny person inside my belly was surreal. And beautiful. And absolutely breathtaking. And I could cry just thinking about it right now. #hormones
Also last week, I decided to try not taking Diclegis (my nausea medicine) to see if I’m past the lingering all-day sickness. After a couple days of dry heaving (oh what fun) it seems like I’m actually in the clear! What a HUGE relief. I get queasy if I don’t eat a little something basically every two hours, so I just have to keep snacks close at hand.
I heard an old wives tale that lots of nausea means you’re carrying a girl… and for some reason my gut feeling is also a girl. But we aren’t finding out until he/she is on the outside so we’ll just have to wait another five months or so!
Confession: my emotions haven’t made me weepy, they occasionally turn me into the hulk. Some mornings when the cats are screaming for breakfast all I want to do is scream back at them… and yes, I realize that sounds absolutely crazy and it cracks David up (which he expertly keeps to himself until the rage monster subsides in approximately 20 seconds). Hormones are WEIRD, y’all.
I spend more time than I care to admit staring at the videos from our ultrasound appointment.
This week I finished up our registry and also finalized the general design inspiration for our gender-neutral nursery. There are about 8 billion options for every.single.thing. and at times it’s insanely overwhelming. I asked Instagram two nights ago what everyone recommends (or doesn’t!) and the recommendations came flooding in! Thank you so much Instagram friends!! I’m going to write a full recap post of what y’all suggested the most frequently because there’s just so much helpful info, especially for us first time mamas!
I’ve said it before but I’m just SO excited to decorate our nursery!!! I want some of the pieces (like the dresser) to be vintage so I’m going to start regularly visiting the thrift and used-furniture shops around town. Good thing we have a while until baby gets here!
